ABOUT OURSELVES

THE BOMBAY IRON MERCHANTS'ASSOCIATION, the biggest Association of Iron & Steel Merchants in India, was formed in the middle of 1950s by a handful of member firms. However, it was incorporated under the Companies Act on 16.7.1951. Since last 56 years, it has progressed from strength to strength and today its membership is of 700 members. The members of our Association come not only from Bombay but also from all nook and corners of India.

 

OBJECTIVES
The Association was established primarily to achieve the following objectives.
  1. To promote the trade or business of Iron, Steel, Hardware, Wire, Pipes, Sheets, Tools and other materials and commodities related with the same and to promote and devise ways beneficial to the business in which members are engaged.
     
  2. To create and obtain traditions and principles and to maintain uniformity of control, to frame, regulations and to do all things necessary for observance of the usage in the trade in the said commodities, to fix or adopt standards of classification therein; to promote control and regulate the trade in the said commodities and improve its stability.

  3. To remove all causes of friction and to settle controversies between persons engaged in the said Trade.
     

  4. To promote unity, goodwill and friendliness amongst the Members and to preserve, maintain and improve the interests of persons engaged in the said Trade.

  5. To consider all questions relating to the rights & privilege of the persons engaged in the Iron & Steel Trade. 

  6. To act as Mediators, Arbitrators or Surveyors in all matters of differences, disputes or claims between the Members of the Association.
 
WEIGH BRIDGES

Two Weigh Bridges are at present functioning in Kalamboli Plot Nos. 755 -80 Tonnes & Plot No. 178 -50 Tonnes. At present both are conducted by M/s Alabama Cine & Weighing Pvt. Ltd., & they generate an income of Rs.1,25,000/- per month. Their contracts are renewed from time to time & are a boon to Iron & Steel Traders at Kalamboli.

 
WELFARE MEASURES
The Association in deference to its Members' wishes has formed a Charitable Trust known as THE BOMBAY IRON MERCHANTS' CHARITABLE SOCIETY, which provides, medical, educational aid and Mediclaim Insurance to the employees of the member firms and their dependants.
